Where Can Rats be Found During Summer

As the spring season comes, the temperature will rise, and the weather becomes warmer. The rats will start to emerge from their winter den. If you haven’t been cleaning your yard, the odor of the organic matter that has accumulated over the years can easily capture their attention. Once they found your place too comfortable, they will decide to stay and invade your house.



Peak Season of Rat Infestation is During Summer

The rats will once again be active since this is the time when the foods and water are abundant. Compared to other animals, rats can reproduce throughout the year if the temperature is ideal. Nonetheless, summer would be the perfect time for them to reproduce and look for a shelter that they can use for an extended period. Therefore, you do not want to attract their attention during this season.

Why Rats Invade Your House During Summer

We mentioned before how rats will enter our house during cold season since they are looking for a shelter that provides them with warmth and comfort. However, this does not necessarily mean that they will ignore your property during summer. Rodents will move around more in this season. They will start to relocate from their winter nest to their summer nest. However, if the place provides a stable temperature, it is highly likely that they will choose to stay.

In case you notice a sign of rat infestation in your house during the summer, it is possible that they have been sharing your house for a long time. Rats will build a semi-permanent den in the dark and warm areas. In case that place becomes too hot during the summer, they will move to the other parts of your home. Rats that live in our attic, will be relocating in our basement. They can also build their nest in the obscure areas of our house.

How They Enter Your House

Since the movement of the rats will be impeded by the cold weather, they will explore more in summer. They can easily find their way to creep inside our house. Rats are naturally attracted to our home due to the cover that it provides. It does not only stabilize the indoor temperature but also keep them safe from the attack of the predators. While the rats are investigating our yard, their nose may capture a hint of interesting smell that can encourage them to invade our house.

The rats will only require a hole that is about the size of the nickel to enter our house. The holes and gaps are commonly located in our window frames and sills. Our siding and utility frame are also prone to damages that may create cracks that they can use as entry point. Even the damages in our baseboard and foundation are potential access hole for the rats. These pests are very persistent. They can chew a tiny hole to enlarge it and invade our home.

Rats can cause damages and health problems once they enter our house. In case you discover a small sign of their infestation, do not wait for a moment and find ways to get rid of them.
